So it’s time for me to upgrade my pump and coincidentally it’s also time for my pump buddy to upgrade hers too.

She has been doing a lot of research into the difference options and trying to get trials of everything. And why shouldn’t she, after all this is a big decision and you don’t want to be stuck with the wrong one for 4 years.

She told me that you could get a demo kit from the Omnipod website. As soon as I heard that I jumped online and ordered mine. It turned up really quickly which was fab.

I decided to try it out at a time when I was following a regular life schedule. I put it on the back of my upper arm on Sunday night and had my Libre on the other arm. Application was a bit strange. It was just peeling off the sticky and placing it on my arm. Whilst I understand that you need the handset to insert the needle I kind off feel like it was a bit of a waste of plastic. Also you don’t actually fill it with insulin either which I think will make the pod heavier.

So feeling like I had half an Omnipod on I decided to see how it would go with my sporty and sweaty lifestyle. After day one and being overly cautious to not rip it off when getting dressed etc the only thing I didn’t like about it was that it stuck out a lot more than the Libre so when I would lean back against my chair it would be in the way and dig into me.

On day two after my gym session it started to lift at the sides which got me a bit worried that it might not last very long. But it ended up lasting 4 days which is longer than my current cannula lasts.

While I would suggest that if you are contemplating an Omnipod you try this out as there’s no harm in it, I dont think it gives you a realistsic picture of what it would be like to actually use the Omnipod.

So overall there is no decision made on going with the Omnipod or not.
